Tuff Products: Update on Snub Pocket-Roo Holster

In a previous article, I stated that my current favorite pocket holster and one that I used on an everyday (and night) basis is Tuff’s “Pocket-Roo” holster.  If interested, here is a link to that article as well as one written by Mr. Aaron Brudenell:

Since my “user’s report” was written, nothing has altered my high esteem for the holster but that does not mean that nothing has changed with the holster itself! I just learned that this holster’s design dimensions have been slightly altered.

As I mentioned in a previous article, the rear of an S&W J-Frame revolver trigger is visible in the Pocket-Roo.  The entire trigger is not, only the rear portion and I did not and do not consider it unsafe. I still carry my Model 642 in the very same holster.  That said, Tuff Products has altered the design so that it now completely covers the J-Frame trigger.

On the left is an S&W J-Frame in the “old” Pocket-Roo holster.  On the right is the same size snub in the current version.  Note that it completely engulfs the trigger to the rear of the trigger guard.

I think that this company’s willingness to make this minor change speaks well of its trying to provide top-notch products to the shooting community. An added benefit is that this holster will reportedly fit the new Ruger LCR snub.  I say “reportedly” because I do not own the new Ruger. I do own an older Colt Agent.  This is an aluminum-framed six-shot snub that is slightly larger than S&W’s super-popular J-Frame snubs.

Resting on Tuff Products’ current catalog cover are a (top) Colt Agent 6-shot .38 Special and an S&W Model 442, a 5-shot snub. Both fit the new Pocket-Roo snugly. The Agent is slightly larger than the S&W.

Note that the new Pocket-Roo completely covers the trigger of the Colt Agent, a slightly larger revolver than the J-Frame S&W. Though designed for the 5-shot QuickStrip for the J-Frames, a 6-shot strip can be used if carrying a 6-shot revolver but the top round will be exposed. Ruger’s LCR holds 5-shots so this is not even an issue with those or the J’s. (Frankly, I don’t see it as an “issue” with the Colts either.)

If you happen to be in the market for a pocket holster for either a small autoloader or a snub revolver, I suggest taking a look at Tuff Products’ Pocket-Roo holsters. I continue to find them durable (“tuff”) and very satisfactory in both concealment qualities, securing the snub and providing a consistently-positioned QuickStrip for a more rapid reload.  (For folks already owning Biancchi Speed Strips, they work fine in the Tuff Pocket-Roo’s pouch, and of course so do Tuff’s QuikStrips, which are available in various capacities/lengths in .38/.357 calibers.)

I will continue to use my “old” Pocket-Roo to tote my well-worn Model 642 and it it ever gives up the ghost, I’ll go to the “new” one…but I believe this will be quite a while; my old one shows no signs of being ready for replacement!

Once again, I am in no way financially affiliated with Tuff Products.  I am merely passing along my observations on what I believe to be an extremely useable pocket holster, particularly since it won’t “break the bank” to buy.  Yes, I have a couple of more expensive leather pocket holsters and they are definitely well-made and practical…but I carry the Tuff Pocket-Roo.  It has worked just as well for me and I really value having access to the reload that it provides and find that this holster holds my revolver just as securely as my other more expensive holsters.

If you want to take a look at these holsters and/or other Tuff products, go to www.tuffproducts.com .  In the current catalog, the Pocket-Roo holsters are designated Model # 5077.  Should you have further questions, contact information is readily available on their site.

Best.
